#Pitchdis 2023 Update

I’ve struggled to write this post because I didn’t want it to come to this, but #PitchDis is going to have to be rescheduled to 2024.

As many of you know, #PitchDis was originally postponed due to the WGA strike. In addition to showing support to the writers, there was also valid concern that networks would scan pitches and get ideas from them, then use them without the authors’ consent or knowledge. I hoped the WGA writers would have gotten a fair deal by now, but unfortunately, they have not.

However, more concerning news came out last month. Twitter (now called X—a name I will never use for it) will be powered by AI. This means anything you type into the platform can be used by AI to create something else, which is basically stealing. As writers, our words and stories are precious to us, and I simply can’t have a pitching event on Twitter knowing they can take them from you. So, unless something changes, #PitchDis will not be held on Twitter again.

This isn’t the end of #PitchDis though. The event can be held elsewhere, but I’m trying to find the best platform that is accessible to everyone. Currently, BlueSky is the most Twitter-like platform, but since they are still an invite-only platform we can’t hold the event there. Discord is also an option, but it’s not as user-friendly as Twitter or BlueSky. Additionally, we can still hold some of our smaller events without Twitter, like the query critique raffles we had earlier in the year.

On a related note, since many users are no longer comfortable using Twitter and have left, I've started a #PitchDis account on BlueSky. News and updates will be posted there, as well as Twitter. If you have a BlueSky account you can follow @pitchdis.com.

I’m confident and optimistic that we can run a great event again in 2024, but it’s going to take some time to figure things out. I appreciate everyone’s patience as I try to find the best way to proceed.

As always, if you have any questions or any input you’d like to provide, please reach out. The #PitchDis Twitter account is still active and there are no plans to remove it as of now, so you can always DM it. Or you can send an email to contactpitchdis@gmail.com. It may take a few days, but other than emails asking about eligibility, I reply to each and every one.

Thanks for understanding 💜
